They’re our biggest fans, our greatest supporters, and best friends. If there’s anything that getting older teaches us is that moms deserve an unending amount of praise and whether we’re 13 or 53, spending some one on one time together is always something special.

We love hosting mother-daughter getaways at our inn. Seeing sweet moments of bonding, hearing laughs, and being a part of making moments special warms our hearts. Here’s a guest experience, written in her own words, to brighten your day and hopefully get you inspired to have your own mother-daughter getaway in Asheville.

A Winter Haven at 1900 Inn on Montford

We’ve all experienced the winter doldrums when the holiday season is over. It’s the middle of January, it’s cold and bare, and we keep wishing for a little something special to brighten our days. Well, we certainly found that bright spot at 1900 Inn on Montford – a sunny, warm place even in the coldest, greyest days of winter.

My mom and I got to enjoy a lovely mother daughter getaway at 1900 Inn on Montford, which was nothing short of extraordinary. Since it was the middle of winter, and Asheville sees fewer visitors, we had the whole inn to ourselves, which was magical in and of itself! From curling up  in the sunroom with a cup of hot, local coffee and a good book to chatting with Willy and Shawnie in the dining room over their delicious homemade breakfasts, we soaked up every moment of our special experience at their charming Asheville bed and breakfast.

We stayed in the beautiful and spacious Cloister’s suite, and with our own fireplace, jacuzzi tub, and luxurious steam shower, this oasis was a little slice of heaven.

A Mother Daughter Getaway Full of Quality Time & Sweet Memories

There’s something special about Asheville in the winter. I know that everyone loves to come when the flowers and trees are blooming and warm weather sets in, but Asheville in this season feels like you have the whole place to yourself! It’s easy to get a reservation at your favorite restaurants and there’s no lines or crowds to navigate.

The first stop of our getaway was walking around the Benjamin Walls Fine Art Gallery. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend popping in for a look at this incredible art, because it is an experience.

My mom and I grabbed a glass of champagne at the wine bar and took our time walking around the gallery, feeling immersed in the landscapes and wildlife — with photos ranging from the mountain peaks of Canada to the powerful lions of Africa — all captured through Benjamin Wall’s lens.

Each piece of art transports you into the beautiful places of planet Earth and gives you an up close look at the magnificent creatures that call it home. One of our favorites was this image of black bear cubs climbing a Tulip Poplar in the Great Smoky Mountains.

It wouldn’t be a true trip to downtown Asheville without a stop at our favorite pottery shop, East Fork Pottery. Over the last few years, my husband and I have accumulated a mug collection from East Fork, so adding another one to the lineup was a must.

With an intentional layout and curated ensemble of their work, it’s always a pleasure to browse around the shop.

Our next stop was quite a treat and an experience that Willy and Shawnie recommended to us! We fully enjoyed a foot soak and massage at Wake Foot Sanctuary. You walk in and immediately feel yourself sinking into zen mode.

There’s light spa music playing in the background, you’re handed comfy slippers to wear, and you can enjoy tea or a glass of wine. As you sit back and relax, you’re treated to a luxurious foot soak of your choice full of nourishing herbs and oils. To top it all off, you also have a choice of massage that rounds out this relaxing experience. If you’ve never been, definitely put this on your list!

While my mom and I thoroughly enjoyed all of these fun Asheville experiences, we will both admit that we could not wait to return to the inn. It felt like going home but in the most relaxing, luxurious way. Turning on the Cloister’s fireplace, putting on our robes, and lounging on the leather furniture, we felt like queens. It was ultimate comfort and relaxation and offered the perfect space for us to enjoy being together, to laugh together, and to just be – which as an adult, this truly was the most special experience to have this time with my mom.

The Details & Joys of 1900 Inn on Montford

We are still talking about our mother daughter getaway! Not just for the time we were able to spend together, but the intentional experience we had at 1900 Inn on Montford. We owe a huge thanks and immense gratitude to Willy and Shawnie for the personal care and attention they put into making our two days truly a joy. From the beautiful bouquet of flowers and hand written card in our room to the bottle of Prosecco in our fridge and local truffles, we immediately felt taken care of.

But one of our favorite parts about this trip and a memory we’ll always cherish, was just getting to spend time and talk with these two wonderful people. We shared travel stories and cooking tips and laughed over a glass of wine in the evening.

Willy and Shawnie also spoiled us with amazing breakfasts in the morning, and they really were A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Fresh ingredients, delicious flavors, and the best company (it was endearing to have Willy serve us breakfast in his apron every morning).

They are the best hosts, and if you choose to stay here, we know you’ll adore them too.

It was a getaway for the books. If we could have paused time and stayed in those moments at the inn forever, we would have. We both left feeling refreshed with full bellies and happy hearts, and we’re already talking about making this an annual event. If you’re thinking of planning your own mother daughter getaway or are just looking for a break from the daily hustle and bustle of life, I can say without a doubt you’ll find this same kind of joy at Inn on Montford. It is a treasure in the mountains, and we can’t wait to return.
