Time has a way of slowing down here at 1900 Inn on Montford.
There’s nothing quite like sitting on the front porch while the warm morning rays of summer softly waken the house while cool mountain air gently blows through. It’s a haven from everyday life, an escape from hot summer weather, and a place for ultimate relaxation.
We love our guests and being able to be a part of making each stay memorable is something we cherish. But we also know that sometimes vacation is just not the same without your furry loved one too and being able to experience memories with them is the cherry on top.

Here, we believe getaways are meant for the whole family, including your pups! With our dog-friendly suites, tail-wagging treats, and easy access to some of the area’s most pet-welcoming trails, breweries, and patios, your vacation can be just as relaxing and wonderful for your furry companion as it is for you. Whether you’re strolling through the River Arts District, hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, or just lounging on our porch with a coffee or cold drink and a happy dog by your side, your summer vacation is one you’ll both remember. And we’re here to make sure of it.

The Local’s Perspective: 5 Fun Things to Do in Pet-Friendly Asheville on Your Summer Vacation
Summertime is made for adventure and no one loves it more than our furry companions. Our beloved, vibrant mountain town is packed with pet-friendly spots that welcome wagging tails with open arms. As local adventurers and dog lovers ourselves, we’ve put together some ideas for a one-of-a-kind summer vacation for you and your doggie (all approved by our dog, Clementine.)
#1. Greet Cows at Bearwallow Mountain
For a less strenuous hike with amazing views, we love taking a trip to Bearwallow Mountain. Head out on this 2.0-mile loop trail, near Gerton, for about an hours-long hike. After some switchbacks through the forest and a few sets of rock stairs, you’ll reach the top: a beautiful, grassy bald with panoramic mountain videos that’s often shared by cattle during the summertime. Don’t be surprised if you see them grazing or popping out from their shady, napping places in the woods.

For a sip and a bite to eat, stop at Souther Williams Vineyard. Try a flight of wine paired with a delicious charcuterie board and sit in this open air winery with a backdrop of the vines.
#2. Sam’s Gap on the Appalachian Trail
Just 30 minutes from 1900 Inn on Montford, you can experience a piece of the Appalachian Trail. One of our favorite hikes to do with pups is Sam’s Gap. It’s an easy 2-mile hike with stunning views.
#3. Enjoy a Brew and Some Farm-to-Table Fair at Sierra Nevada Brewing
For beer connoisseurs, a trip to Sierra Nevada Brewing is a must! Sip your way through 23 beers on tap and dig into locally inspired bites, from wood-fired pizzas and garden-fresh greens to hearty small plates. Relax by the fire on the back porch, catch some live music, or head inside for the full menu experience (*dogs are not allowed inside the building).

#4. Take a Stroll Through the River Arts District
For a fun, art-filled afternoon, one of our favorite places to explore is the River Arts District. Asheville is home to so many talented artists —painters, potters, you name it — and the River Arts District is a great way to experience it all. Stop into the Pink Dog Creative or the Marquee to find a piece to take home. This Asheville spot is known for being dog-friendly so share the adventure with your pup! For a coffee or a bite to eat, we love stopping in at Ultra Coffeebar. Try the Running Man if you’re there for lunch.
#5. Treat Your Pup at Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery
Just a scenic 30‑minute drive away in Waynesville, Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery is the paw‑fect pit stop. Voted one of the Top 10 dog bakeries in the U.S., it bakes up fresh, decorated, and plain treats tailored for pups of all breeds and dietary needs. Beyond the bakery counter, you’ll find handmade collars, leashes, toys and chews all locally crafted. The attached Dog Bar lets you sip a cocktail while your dog enjoys a “beer” of their own — a cheers for pets and their people! With a friendly, communal vibe, guests often describe it as a place where “dogs are treated like family.”
