Summer Camp, Inn on Montford Style: A Weekend for Our Beloved Guests

The front of 1900 Inn on Montford, a romantic bed and breakfast in Asheville

Time slows down here at 1900 Inn on Montford. Mornings are spent leisurely sipping coffee and relishing homemade breakfast on the porch with the kind of nostalgia that brings you back to your favorite summer memories.

We turned back the clock at our Asheville bed and breakfast to those carefree, fun-filled camp days. And of course, it came with our own twist too. We hosted a special “Summer Camp” weekend, to show some love to our incredible guests who have returned to stay with us time and time again. It was a weekend of laughter and connection where familiar faces gathered for delicious food, live music, and just the chance to be together and relax. Because here, guests aren’t just visitors, they’re family.

Here’s a little glimpse into this fun-filled weekend, told by one of our Summer Camp guests.

Slow Mornings with New Friends

There’s something special about mornings at 1900 Inn on Montford. The sun is soft, the birds are chirping, and you just feel like you’re in a little oasis. From our pet friendly room in the Carriage House, I made my way to the sunroom every morning not only for a delicious hot cup of coffee (which I looked forward to every day) but also for the chance to mingle with other guests. I love the sunroom, because it feels like your very own living room with its  large, comfy couch and soft chairs and ottomans, so even though you’re not at home, it comes pretty close to feeling that way.

Over a cup of coffee on my spot on the couch, I’d sit next to some of the other guests listening to stories of their lives and what they’ve been up to. And this was one of my favorite parts of the whole weekend. It was a chance to savor the mornings and connect with people who have different backgrounds, different life stories, and bonding over how much we all love Inn on Montford.

A One-of-a-Kind Breakfast You Can Only Find at This Top Asheville Bed and Breakfast

A staple of summer camp is without a doubt breakfast. It’s a time where everyone comes together to start the day with a hearty meal and a chance to spend time together outside in the fresh air. Take that fond memory of camp and elevate it, and you can start to imagine the gourmet breakfast at Inn on Montford

After morning coffee in the sunroom, we all made our way outside to the front porch where the tables were beautifully set and hot coffee and orange juice were waiting for us. One of my favorite parts was seeing Willy out there in the morning in his apron! Each day we were served an incredible three course breakfast including something savory and even a dessert! Willy and Shawnie really outdid themselves with our gourmet breakfasts. We were full all day!

Conversation, Good Food & Lovely Mountain Music

After a day of exploring Asheville and snacking on some of Shawnie’s homemade cookies in the afternoon, I loved winding down in the evenings on the porch. Willy and Shawnie graciously hosted happy hours for us each night which were such a nice opportunity to chat with the other guests but also have some one-on-one time with the innkeepers too. I loved sharing a glass of wine with Shawnie and getting to hear about some of her amazing travels, her family, and more of the history of the inn.

On Friday night, we all got treated to a delicious dinner catered from Huli Sues, specializing in Hawaiian barbeque. We enjoyed chicken skewers, pulled pork, coleslaw, mac and cheese, and Hawaiian rolls. And for dessert, some homemade Dole Whip. One taste and it transported you right to the shores of Hawaii.

We also got another special treat, an evening of mountain music on the front porch from local musicians, which was fabulous. We were all toe-tapping to the sounds of the banjo and fiddle and singing along with the band to songs like “Seven Bridges Road.”

Golden Retriever Approved: The Perfect Weekend at This Special, Pet-Friendly B&B

Summer Camp at 1900 Inn on Montford was loved by all, even the doggos. When we checked into the William Morris room in the Carriage House, Shawnie had some homemade dog treats waiting for our Golden Retriever, Cove. Not only that, but they also had a large trundle bed for him to make his stay comfortable. Cove enjoyed his days at Summer Camp getting pets from the other guests, sunning on the porch in the morning, enjoying the evening music just as much as we did, and of course, making friends. He had multiple play dates with Willy and Shawnie’s sweet chocolate lab, Clementine, and left with two new Doxin friends.

If you have the chance to attend Summer Camp, or one of their other amazing alumni events in the future, I highly recommend going. You’ll love it too!
