Blue ridge mountains close to Asheville NC

There’s something magical about summertime in the Blue Ridge Mountains. The days are bright and full of adventure while evenings are met with golden light, cool breezes, and the rhythmic sounds of Mother Nature.

It’s a season that’s meant to be savored. From cool mountain hikes and waterfall escapes to leisurely afternoons exploring local shops and cafés to nights at the ballpark, the season invites you to slow down and soak it all in. Here at 1900 Inn on Montford, you’re just minutes from the fun, making it convenient and easy to experience the very best of summer in the mountains.

So whatever adventure you’re looking for, here’s your guide to enjoying it all.

Hit the Trail: Summer Hiking in Asheville NC

When outdoor adventure calls, nothing beats a chance to climb a mountain top or feel the cool mist of a cascading waterfall.

Start with a drive along the iconic Blue Ridge Parkway, where you’ll find trails with panoramic views and blooming rhododendrons.

For a memorable hike filled with picture perfect moments, we’d recommend one of the following depending on your intensity level:

  • Craggy Gardens Trail: A short hike with stunning vistas! This (1.4-miles round-trip) trail winds through a canopy of rhododendron until you finally reach the 5,892-foot summit at Craggy Pinnacle.
  • Graveyard Fields: One of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s most beloved trails where you’ll find waterfalls and wild blueberries. This loop hike is about 3.5 miles total and chalk full of outdoor adventure.
  • Looking Glass Rock: For folks that prefer a more difficult hike, this one is for you! This is a steep, 6.4-mile round-trip climb in Pisgah National Forest that rewards you at the end with a  massive rock face view of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.

Bases & Brews: Catch an Asheville Tourists’ Baseball Game

For a classic summer experience, and one that’s just minutes from downtown Asheville, nothing beats a night at the ballpark. Head to the newly renovated stadium at McCormick Field to watch the Asheville Tourists in action.

Set against a backdrop of the Blue Ridge Mountains, a Tourists game combines America’s favorite pastime with Asheville charm: think local craft beer, mountain views, and a lively crowd. It’s the perfect way to spend a warm summer evening, whether you’re a die-hard baseball fan or just looking for a different kind of evening experience.
